We hope you’ll find browsing the Inside Higher Ed Web site as enjoyable as we have producing it for you. In general, the site should work fine in any recent web browser, but if you run into something that doesn’t work as expected, this section should help you find the answer.

The Inside Higher Ed Web site is designed using the latest standard Web technologies, including XHTML and CSS, which allows pages to load faster, display more accurately, and work in alternative browsing devices such as text-only, braille and text-to-speech browsers.
For best performance, we recommend that you enable JavaScript and check this list of compatible browsers. You can check your browser’s version by going to the “Help” drop-down menu and selecting “About (your browser’s name).” If you’re using an older browser, please consider upgrading to a newer version — not just to browse our Web site, but for the enhanced security and other features it will offer.
Because our site uses CSS-friendly markup and a separate stylesheet for printing, our pages are already printer-friendly. What does that mean? It means that when you print a page your browser will automatically remove headers, sidebars and other extraneous information from the printed version. Use your print preview to see how a printed page will turn out.
No, JavaScript isn’t required — you’ll still be able to read stories, create an account, search and apply for jobs, create a portfolio and upload documents without it. A few site navigational aids do make use of JavaScript-enhanced interfaces, however, so we recommend you enable JavaScript for the best experience.
The site does not open unrequested pop-up or pop-under windows, so by all means, leave your pop-up blocker on.
Cookies are not required to read the site. We do, however, set a cookie when you register and log in — this is the most secure way to allow us to identify individual users’ browser sessions. If you disable cookies, you will not be able to log in to Inside Higher Ed (necessary for some candidate functions or to set your e-mail preferences).
Inside Higher Ed does not set third-party cookies. For more information, read our privacy statement.
